Dir. Greg Macousi

Even before this year passes its halfway mark, it is already becoming apparent that 2016 will be a big year for serious musical collaborations. We’ve witnessed a string of interesting pairings including Elani and Jose Chameleone, Akothee and Flavour, to even an unexpected one from Atemi and Khaligraph Jones. The one that has registered 100% compatibility so far is Party Like A Moda, Abbas Kubaff’s new release featuring Victoria Kimani.

Party Like A Moda essentially brings together two expert collaborators. Abbas’ entertaining lyrical delivery and Victoria Kimani’s vocal and visual presence easily make them other artists’ top contenders for guest features on the local and regional front respectively. The potential awesomeness of having both of these sets of qualities on a single track has finally been realized.

As the title suggests, Party Like A Moda is a purely party-themed track packaged to automatically fit into DJ playlists and tempt listeners to take things to the extreme when they go out on the town. Even the beat is designed to sound like a (slower) distant cousin of Taio Cruz’s DynamiteAbbas is totally in his element, delivering two dancehall-inspired verses as Victoria Kimani tops them off with a fitting chorus. The two artists’ qualities combine and work together as smoothly as a well mixed glass of Mai Tai.

The Greg Macousi directed music video sees Abbas and his mates break into a club, either because they cannot wait for it to open or because they haven’t had enough partying. In as much as it works for the intended purposes, there are a few frames that should either have been cut out or edited. If you’re keen enough, you’ll see.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This collaboration ticks all the right boxes and should be well on its way to becoming a club favourite for a very long time.
