Best Of: South African House #1

South African House/Kwaito House has become a standard on DJ sets and club tracklists around here for quite a while and every so often we have great South African artists grace our (Blankets and Wine) events such as Liquideep, Mi Casa and Zahara. The house genre hasn’t been exploited much by our industry as yet but who says we cannot party to some the great sounds of Msanzi, huh? So, in random order, here is our first installment of some new and not so new SA House tracks that we have been bumping to of late and recommend for your listening pleasure:

1. Muzart – Jukebox

They are a new signing to Soul Candi records, also linked to Mi Casa, and their new album Jukebox  is getting very good reception. Their style fuses house with other influences such as jazz, Latin and soul to come up with a fresh exciting sound. Folks at Blankets and Wine should hook up with this group ASAP!!! Listen to the title track below:

2. Mafikizolo – Khona (Uhuru Mix)

Yes, Mafikizolo is back with a new album entitled Reunited produced by the man with the midas touch, Oskido, and Uhuru. This track off that alb is quite an interesting out-of-the-box approach with a world music feel, no? The video is lovely, of course.

3. DJ Mickz ft. Funeka – Over The Rainbow

Nice version of the timeless classic, great vocals from Funeka.

4. Mi Casa – Can’t Get Enough

5. Vetkuk vs. Mahoota – iStockvela

6. Fistaz Mixwell ft Mello Soul – I’m Free

Seems Soul Candi hardly go wrong with their releases. Very soulful stuff.

7. DJ Gayani ft. Mlu & Big Nuz – Be There

8. Professor ft. Speedy – Baphi

Remember Lento? The duo have dropped another vid with an absorbing story line, just like last time with Lento.

9. Heavy K ft. Prince – Katalina

This is an absolutely addictive song, the type that makes a case for the replay button.

10. DJ Fresca – Amaphoyisa

The track is a bit old yes, but can still work up the dance floor any day.
