New Music: Lisa Oduor-Noah, Benady, Wamae, Afrolution, HMZ + R.I.Z.E.

It’s yet another day full of new, not-so-new and buzzing music releases from around and about the Kenyan scene. Let’s get right into it:

Lisa Oduor-Noah – Fast Car (Cover)

Lisa Oduor-Noah has been been releasing a series of inspired covers lately and this one of Tracy Chapman’s unforgettable Fast Car is just but the latest. As expected of Lisa, this cover is haunting and soothing in equal measure. Check out the rest on her Soundcloud

Benady – Hakuna Matata

Flag 42 stepped it up a notch as a label last year, bringing in more and more of their artists to the foreground. More interestingly they are also one of the labels incorporating newer trap oriented hip-hop sounds from a local perspective with releases such as UveceTheir latest offering is Hakuna Matata  by Benady.

Wamae – S.O.F.T.L.Y. EP

Music producer Wamame has a batch of new EDM tracks making up what he calls the S.O.F.T.L.Y. EP. Looking for an addition to your workout playlist or just want to dance the Njaanuary away? Take a load of this:

The Afrolution – Shot in the Dark ft. Trajikk

In this track that cheekily starts off like the theme to Downton Abbey, hip hop group The Afrolution team up with Trajikk reinforce their commitment to the music in a harsh, unjust world.

HMZ – Next 2 U

For his first release of 2016,  up and coming artist, producer and songwriter HMZ takes his time with this massively chilled out love song.

R.I.Z.E. – Nairobi State of Mind

The third release off what is going to be Raw Tapes Vol. 1, R.I.Z.E. pays a tribute to Narobi city. The way things are going, Raw Tapes is going to be a really good mixtape/EP/album. Keep your eyes locked on R.I.Z.E. – certainly an emcee to watch this year.
