New Music: Cece Sagini, Athieno, Basthma, Quassa, Maganga + Kalimani The MC

It’s yet another day full of new, not-so-new and buzzing music releases from around and about the Kenyan scene. Let’s get right into it:

Cece Sagini –  9 To 5

Cece is back and spreading her trademark positive vibes in this new releases, this time proposing that work can be fun if you want it to be. Prepare your body for the saxophone. Oh, the music video is also out for your viewing pleasure as you wind down the clock to 5PM.

Athieno – Way Back

Athieno opts for a hopping into a matatu rather than TARDIS to reverse back to the better moments of a relationship going sour. The vibes in this track also take us back to a time when the harmonies of the 90s R&B girl groups ruled.

Basthma – Stride

DJ/Producer Basthma has been in the zone these past few weeks. He released a massive Valentine’s Day themed double whammy titled Crimson (I) and Crimson (II). He’s now dropped some more trap and bass inspired sounds in a four track collection titled Stride. Notably, in Feeling, he does a good job of sampling Ariana Grande and The Weeknd’s Love Me Harder.

Quassa – Alchemist

Staying with future sounds, here is a short gem by Quassa that wastes no time transporting you to the Orient. If you like what you hear, check out his other releases on SoundCloud, particularly Frequencies.

Maganga – Desire

Maganga has been steadily releasing some good stuff spread broadly across the electronic music spectrum, from ambient to synthpop. Desire is hard to pin down though, but the build up to the frenzied beats is quite a payoff.

Kalimani The MC – Dunda Nayo

This is Kalimani The MC’s second release off his upcoming debut ablum titled Square One. This track is an ode to true Kenyan hip hop, complete with all the appropriate namedrops. Based on this track and Tetemesha, this Nakuru-based artist is bound to make an impact with his debut album. Check out Next Level as well.
