Best Of: South African House #2

Yes, it’s about that time we shared what was on our playlist as regards house and kwaito music from the Southern part of the Motherland. There have been quite a number of new msanzi tunes from the usual suspects casing a bit of a buzz. We also have a few interesting remixes to showcase and tracks from much earlier in the year. Let’s get into it then.

Mi Casa – Jika

Well, Mi Casa dropped their sophomore album (aptly named Su Casa) around a month ago. I think Jika is the first single off the album – it has some nice visuals to go along with the celebration of sound!

Mafikizolo ft. May-D – Happiness

Riding off the massive success of  Khona the duo are back with another offering from their Reunited album called Happiness. It features Nigerian artist May-D who adds a *bit* of an interesting touch. Looks like the collaboration really rubbed off on the Naija star because he went and dropped a house-ish track of his own called Get Down with the help of super-producer Oskido.

DJ Ganyani & FB – Xigubu

Another massive tune from DJ Ganyani that almost gives Khona a run for its money as for the hottest track this year.

Liquideep – Welcome Aboard

First single off the lads’ latest album, really smooth, really soulful.

DJ Cleo – Mbizo Rocker

Off his latest Eskhaleni 9 album, this is a remix of an old classic Imbizo by Phuzekhemisi. Kick ass job from DJ Cleo.

Big Nuz – Hawaii

Black Motion ft. Nape – That Lazy Song

Busiswa ft. Oskido & Uhuru – Ngoku

The names on that collabo alone should tell you the track is a guaranteed banger.

Black Coffee ft. Zakes Bantwini – Take It All Off

Black Coffee hooks up  with Zakes Bantwini (who graced July’s Blankets & Wine) and they have something soulful an sexy up their sleeves.

Rihanna – Stay (Uhuru Remix)

Rihanna’s Stay gets a nice reworking from none other than Uhuru himself.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo – Homeless (Chris Sen & Euphonik Bootleg)

Really good remix of a classic.
